AN INDEPENDENT PERSPECTIVE
Mohamed Rahmo, known to many as Hamouda, is a communication strategist with more than fifteen years of experience turning complex subjects into clear, useful messages. He founded The Innovation Guy as an independent space to explore how ideas, people and institutions shape the world we share.
He is Senior Communication Advisor and Public Affairs Officer at the NATO Climate Change and Security Centre of Excellence (CCASCOE) in Montréal. There he leads communication strategy for the Centre’s work on integrating climate change into security thinking: media relations, relationships with government, military and civil-society partners, public events and conferences, briefings, and the Centre’s digital channels.
His path runs through the creative and innovation industries. In Morocco he spent more than five years as marketing communication manager at Bouma Communication, a studio producing advocacy and engagement content for nonprofits, social enterprises and international organisations, and led the digital transformation of an existing radio station with Seven Com. Earlier roles in community building, product marketing and UX research took him through Moroccan digital companies including Alamjadid, Floupie, ARTLINK, Redspot and Social Impulse. For almost nine years he also wrote and curated The Rolling Notes, a digital notebook on marketing and communication.
Since moving to Québec he has led marketing at Collège Milestone, advised on communication, marketing and events for La Gouvernance au Féminin – Women in Governance, managed product-design marketing for Digisense, and directed marketing at Loranger Coatings, building strategy, budgets, brand positioning and campaigns across channels.
He is the founder of madNess, a Moroccan NGO. During the COVID-19 pandemic he helped bring people and materials together to produce protective face shields for doctors and donate them to hospitals across Morocco, an experience that shapes his interest in how communities organise themselves to act.
He holds master’s degrees in public and social communication from Université Hassan II Mohammedia and in logistics management from ENCG Settat, and has completed the NATO Strategic Communications Foundation Course, Professional Scrum Master I and a diploma in full-stack web development. He writes here about society, policy, environment, economy, health and the craft of communication.
Views expressed on The Innovation Guy are his own and do not represent NATO, CCASCOE, the Department of National Defence or any other organisation.

Why communication belongs inside the work from the very beginning, and how plain language, listening and trust help good ideas reach the people they are for.

A madNess story from Morocco: how connecting people, materials and an urgent need during COVID-19 turned collective action into protection for doctors.

Every metric is a choice about what to see. A wider conversation about value, impact and progress beyond growth for its own sake.

Participation matters most when it comes with the ability to influence a decision. What inclusive decision-making requires after the invitation is sent.

Looking at the everyday systems that help a community adapt, respond and recover, from shaded streets to the neighbour who knows where to find help.

The most useful ideas live between disciplines. What changes when technology, policy, environment and everyday life are treated as one connected story?
